Hanneman, Kornfield Set to Represent Team USA in PyeongChang

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – From University ski trails in Fairbanks to the Alpensia Cross-Country Centre in PyeongChang, South Korea, two former Alaska Nanooks men’s Nordic skiers will live out their dreams at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Last month, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association named alumni Logan Hanneman (’15) and Tyler Kornfield (’13) to the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team in the sport of cross-country skiing. The duo will represent two of 20 cross-country skiers named to Team USA and will compete in their first Olympic appearance.

Hanneman, a native of Fairbanks, skied and ran cross-country for the Alaska Nanooks from 2011-15, while Kornfield was also a dual-sport athlete for the Nooks from 2009-13. Both earned Bachelor’s degrees in Engineering from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The USA hasn’t won an Olympic medal in cross-country skiing since the 1976 Innsbruck Olympics when Bill Koch won a silver in the men’s 30km skiathlon.
