WOMEN’S BASKETBALL | 4-16 Overall, 0-14 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: at Western Oregon (Feb. 8), at Concordia (Feb. 10)
The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball dropped two Great Northwest Athletic Conference contests last week, falling 63-46 to the No. 8 Alaska Anchorage Seawolves in Anchorage before suffering a 74-59 decision to the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets at the Alaska Airlines Court. Alaska will hit the road this week, taking on Western Oregon Wolves on Thursday, Feb. 8 in Monmouth before taking on the Concordia University Cavaliers on Saturday, Feb. 10 in Portland. Both Thursday and Saturday’s game is scheduled for 4:15pm AKST.

MEN’S BASKETBALL | 9-11 Overall, 7-7 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: vs. Central Washington (Feb. 8), vs. Northwest Nazarene (Feb. 10)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s basketball team fell in conference action on the road last week, falling 80-59 to Saint Martin’s in Lacey, Washington on Thursday before taking a 87-60 loss from the Seattle Pacific Falcons on Saturday.

HOCKEY | 11-15-2 Overall, 9-12-1-1 WCHA
LAST WEEK: 2-0 | THIS WEEK: at #20 Northern Michigan (Feb. 9-10)
The Alaska Nanooks hockey team earned a crucial Western Collegiate Hockey Association sweep at home last week, the first at the Carlson Center this season, defeating the Ferris State Bulldogs 4-2 on Friday before sealing the sweep with a 4-1 victory on Saturday. The Nooks will embark on a two-week conference road trip this week, taking on the No. 20 Northern Michigan Wildcats this Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Berry Events Center in Marquette, Mich. Puck-drop for both nights is scheduled for 3:07pm AKST.

NORDIC SKI
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at Denver Invitational (Feb. 10-11)
The Alaska Nanooks men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams will head to Minturn, Colorado this week, as they compete against fellow Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association programs at the Denver University Invitational at the Maloit Park Trails this Saturday, Feb. 10 and Sunday, Feb. 11.

Heaton Named PCSC Athlete of the Week
Last week, the Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference named Alaska Nanook swimming senior Cassidy Heaton the Division II Female Athlete of the Week. Heaton won two of Alaska’s three victories against the University of the Incarnate Word in Fairbanks Jan. 26-27. Heaton won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:42.60) on Friday and the 500-yard freestyle (5:13.01) on Saturday morning.

Martinsson, Frye Earn WCHA Weekly Honors
On Monday, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association named Alaska hockey senior defenseman Zach Frye the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore goaltender Anton Martinsson the WCHA’s Goaltender of the Week. It is both Frye and Martinsson’s second conference honor of the season.

Military Family Appreciation Month
The Alaska Nanooks Ticketing Office will be hosting a ticketing special for all military members throughout the month of February where all families can get in to any Patty Center sporting event (men’s and women’s basketball) for the price of just $10. There’s no limit on the size of the family but fans must show a valid military ID at the door.

Two @AlaskaNanooksXC Alumni Set to Represent Team USA in PyeongChang
Former Alaska Nanooks Nordic ski skiers Logan Hanneman (’15) and Tyler Kornfield (’13) were recently named to Team USA to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea in the sport of cross-country skiing. The games kick-off on Friday, Feb. 9 and conclude on Feb. 25 with cross-country skiing being contested Feb. 10-25 at the Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Centre in the PyeongChang Mountain Cluster.

Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week
On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks Sports Information Office declared sophomore guard Kylie Wallace (women’s basketball) and senior defenseman Zach Frye (hockey) the Feb. 5 female and male Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the week for their performances on the court and on the ice last weekend, respectively.

Kylie Wallace (Sophomore | Guard | Petersburg, Alaska)
Wallace scored double-digits in both GNAC games last week, posting 16 points against Alaska Anchorage on Thursday before tallying a career-high 19 points against MSUB on Saturday. Over the course of the two conference games, Wallace combined for 35 points, four rebounds and three steals, while shooting 12-for-22 from the field and 11-for-13 from the free throw line.

Zach Frye (Senior | Defenseman | Spokane, Wash.)
With the help of Frye’s offensive efforts, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team earned a conference sweep over the Ferris State Bulldogs at the Carlson Center last weekend. Frye led all Alaska players and WCHA defensemen with four points over the two-game series, earning one goal and three assists. Frye earned his first three-point game of the season on Friday with one goal and two assists before chipping in the game-winning assist in Saturday’s game.

#StickIt2Cancer
On Saturday, the Alaska Nanooks announced that Nanook hockey’s junior defenseman Jack Weiss will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season to undergo chemotherapy treatment for testicular cancer. The Alaska Nanooks will keep supporters informed with updates and information on how you can support Weiss throughout the upcoming months. Use the hashtag #StickIt2Cancer to support Jack and his fight.

All Alaska Nanooks volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball games (home and away) can be followed through the Alaska Nanooks Stretch Internet Portal free of charge. Fans can follow the games through the live stream, live stats or both.

All Alaska Nanook hockey games (home and away) can be heard live through ESPN 820AM Fairbanks or online at 820sports.com. Additionally, fans have the option to watch the games live for a small fee on WCHA.tv.
