FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Saturday, 18 Alaska Nanooks student-athletes helped sort over 1,000 boxes of cookies with the Girl Scouts of Fairbanks, the Farthest North Council in the United States.
Athletes from coed rifle, women’s swimming, volleyball and women’s basketball were up and at ’em at 7am AKST to help organize cookies that were to be distributed throughout the community of Fairbanks this week.
Joining the Nooks was Alaska Nanooks Interim Athletic Director and Assistant AD for Compliance Kayne Gutierrez and the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Dean of Students Laura McCollough.
“It was a lot of work but a ton of fun to have our student-athletes work with the Fairbanks Girl Scouts last weekend,” Gutierrez said on Wednesday. “We always like seeing out student-athletes out in the community but to see them having a great time while also helping a great organization like the Girl Scouts is especially rewarding.”
